yes.

agron is an imperfect character that makes terrible decisions sometimes and it’s what makes him three-dimensional. he was rash and impetuous and selfless and seflish and loving and jealous and ultimately, in the end, he chose life. he chose nasir.

and while agron consistently makes good and bad choices, and sometimes lets his pride and his guilt guide his bad choices, he also learns from his mistakes.

and castus death and his parting words are so instrumental to agron learning his biggest lesson of all. that his life with nasir, his love with nasir is more vital than anything. it’s paramount above all things. it’s what they’re all fighting for really. life and love and the ability to do those things as a free human being.

and in that  moment you can see on agron’s face that it clicks, he finally FINALLY gets it. he’s risking the most precious, meaningful thing in his life, nasir, for what he believes is his only worth - his ability to fight (and fight for spartacus’ cause). and in this moment he gets that it’s not important anymore, not in the face of having and loving nasir for the rest of their lives. it’s why he leaves the shield on spartacus’ grave. he also leaves it in commemoration of spartacus, but the symbolism of him leaving behind the only weapon he can feasibly wield is significant. he’s leaving battle and blood behind. and he’s doing it so he can live his life free and with nasir.
